Their high level of professionalism allows them to produce relatively high quality honey according to those standards which are regulated by the EC and D.I.B directives. Unfortunately, modern flora of Germany does not have the same variety like the flora of New Zealand or Brazil. Population density, industrial production and the development of agriculture greatly minimizes the presence of wild-growing medicinal herbs. Naturally occurring vegetation cover is almost non-existent. Considering that more than 30% of the country is covered in forests, they are all either artificially planted or just growing stock in the cleared areas. The population of the Federal Republic of Germany belongs to the “golden billion” of the highly-developed countries, and on average a German citizen consumes incomparably more than a resident of a developing country; 20 times more energy than a Hindu, 100 times more steel than a Filipino and 15 times more aluminum then a resident of Argentina. All of this occurs in a very confined territory. Germany is one of the most industrially advanced countries in the world but for the production of high quality honey, clean ecology and the abundance of wild growing herbs is necessary.

The consumption of honey in Germany is the highest in the world but German apiarists produce only about 20% of the required demand. The other 80% is imported from different countries and unfortunately sometimes it is not of the best quality. The average wholesale price for imported honey is 2Euro/kg. According to our economic calculations it is impossible to produce quality, ripe honey at this price, since the expenses of an honest apiarist are much higher than the purchase price. Falsification does occur.
